Ever since Imran Khan has won General Elections 2018, the slot of PCB Chairman is being considered by many as “up for grabs”. Current Chairman PCB, Mr Najam Sethi had drawn a lot of criticism from Imran Khan himself at the time of his appointment as he believed that Mr Sethi is being compensated by PM Sharif for his support as caretaker CM Punjab before General Elections 2013. It is worth noting that Mr Sethi, a journalist by profession, has no background either as a cricket player or administrator and his elevation to the highest rank was considered ill-advised and potentially damaging to cricket. However, Mr Sethi had shown positive results, especially inauguration of PSL, bringing cricket back to Pakistan and ensuring enhanced revenues from ICC for PCB.

Intervention of Imran khan in PCB is a must as being a cricket legend himself, he is likely to monitor cricket and its development closely in the coming years. Performance of Cricket team, organization of domestic tournaments, building of infrastructure and holding of international matches in Pakistan will be his major goals. To achieve them it is likely that he will delegate the responsibility to one of his trusted lieutenants. Media is already speculating on the name of Wasim Akram as PCB Chairman, a legend himself and one of the closest friends of Imran Khan. Wasim Akram blossomed as a player under Imran Khan and carried forward the tradition of fearsome bowling attack along with Waqar Younis.

Wasim Akram had an outstanding international career with over 800 international wickets against his name. Moreover, he had captained Pakistan extensively and understands the cricket environment in Pakistan. Since his retirement from international cricket, he has remained associated with the game as a commentator and coach. He has worked as coach in IPL and PSL and has helped his sides in winning titles.

However, at the time of these words are being written, Najam Sethi has neither resigned nor given any indication of leaving the post. It is yet to be seen that whether Imran Khan allows him to continue work or basing on previous acrimonious relations between them, Imran Khan will ask him to resign from the post as PM is the Patron in Chief of PCB. There are other names in the mix as well which includes name of Ramiz Raja, a former player who has played under Imran Khan and is currently working as a commentator. It remains to be seen whom Imran Khan entrusts with the job of Chairman PCB, as he has other important issues to tackle before turning his attention to Chairmanship of PCB.
