Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced final results of all the constituencies of the national and provincial assemblies. According to an update issued by the ECP, Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party has won 116 of the 270 National Assembly seats, emerging as the largest political party in the country. The PML-N grabbed 64 seats, while the PPP is in third place with 43 National Assembly seats.

This news was the biggest breaking news of 2018 i.e. Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, former disqualified Prime Minister of Pakistan to serve 10 years in jail for owning assets beyond income and his daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif for 7 years and she was found “Instrumental in concealment of the properties of her father” and 1 year for non-cooperation with the bureau. These sentences will also run concurrently; she will serve 7 years in total.
3: Kalsoom Nawaz Death
Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, passed away in London after a months-long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband and four children, Hassan, Hussain, Maryam and Asma. Begum Kulsoom served as first lady of Pakistan in her husband’s three non-consecutive terms as prime minister from 1990-1993, 1997-1999 and 2013-2017.
2: Disqualification of Prime Minister
In a landmark verdict that will change the course of the country’s political history, the Supreme Court ruled that disqualification handed down under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution is for life. Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif disqualified for life.
1: Al-Azizia Steel Mills Corruption Reference
An accountability court on Monday 24.12.2015 sentenced former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to seven years in prison in Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference, while acquitting him in the Flagship Investment reference. In a short verdict, the court said there was concrete evidence against the former premier in the Al-Azizia reference, and that he was unable to provide a money trail in the case. The court ordered that Nawaz be “sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for a term of 07 year along with a fine if Rs1.5 billion and US$25 million”.
