While demanding the removal of material against polio vaccine from world’s largest social networking site Facebook, Pakistan said that it has been affecting the Polio Vaccine campaign, whereas polio teams are also vulnerable to the risk. Few days, false news and fake videos came out on social media against ‘Polio Vaccine’ on children’s deaths, which gathered thousands of views and shares.
According to the foreign news agency, Babar Atta spokesman of Prime Minister for Anti-Polio campaign, after the fake news and videos on social media, thousands of parents refused to polio their children. Therefore, he requested the Facebook to remove such propaganda from his platform. It was believed that at least 3 people were killed in a polio campaign last month.
The violence accorded with an outbreak of hysteria in cities across northwest Pakistan after rumors of children suffering from adverse responses to a polio vaccine sparked panic, with tens of thousands rushed to hospitals, those who were sent home after initial aid.
According to the recent report 9 polio cases came out in the country this year, in which two cases came from Lahore and two from Bannu and remaining from Karachi, Khyber, Bajaur agency, Hangu and Waziristan area. Last week, around 10,000 vaccination refusals were reported per day in Islamabad.
