Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) issued a notice to News One TV channel to release alleged fake audio and video against Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice Retired Javed Iqbal on Saturday. A private news channel News One has released a fake audio call related to Chairman NAB Justice (R) Javed Iqbal, in which a person (allegedly Chairman NAB) can be heard about using indecent words with a female. The videos were aired by News One TV channel Thursday evening without any version from the Justice (R) Javed Iqbal or any other officials.
Before that, the private News Tv channel also released two videos, about Chairman NAB but NAB representative denied the allegations and declared it “Propaganda of the Blackmail Group”. The statement issued by the National Accountability Bureau stated that the purpose of these clips is to harm Chairman NAB reputation and image of NAB.
The notice sent by PEMRA to Chief Executive Officer of News One states that TV channel on 23rd May targeted Chairman along with audio and video clips in breaking news. According to the notice that News One Channel claimed that conversations and clips were broadcast in public interest, but about an hour later the channel asked for apology and said that the video clips were unauthentic. PEMRA said in the notice that the broadcasting agency would apologize to Chairman NAB on running the fake news.
In the Notice, News One channel has been asked for a reply in 7 days so that no legal proceedings can be initiated yet to violate the rules of PEMRA. In this regard, the channel’s CEO on 31st May has been directed to present personally in the PEMRA Headquarters, Islamabad or by a representative. PEMRA notice said that if the broadcasting agency failed to follow the instructions, the action against the channel would be initiated.
