Kareena Kapoor Ready To Shift Gears By Joining Politics

If rumors are to be believed a Congressman in Madhya Pradesh has requested the party chief to field Bollywood superstar Kareena Kapoor Khan in the upcoming national election, claimed Indian media. In a letter to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, Yogendra Singh Chauhan suggested the actor would be a suitable candidate to defeat the BJP in Bhopal.

If Kareena Kapoor fights from Bhopal, we can hope to snatch the seat long held by the BJP, the congressman had stated. Reports further claimed that Yogendra was seeking an appointment with Chief Minister Kamal Nath to convince him to give Kareena a party ticket.

There have been reports in the media recently suggesting that leading Bollywood actress, Kareena Kapoor Khan, will be contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In a letter to Congress President, Rahul Gandhi, corporator Yogendra Singh Chauhan suggested that the actress would be the most suitable candidate to defeat the BJP from the Bhopal seat.

The Veere Di Wedding starlet has been quick to rubbish these reports and put an end to all such rumours. Kareena has made it very clear that she has no plans of entering politics and would rather focus on acting.

The 38-year-old actor said she has neither been approached nor does she have an interest in politics. “There is no truth to these reports. I have not been approached for this whatsoever. My focus is and will be films only,” the actor said in a statement.

Madhya Pradesh BJP spokesman, Rajnish Agrawal labelled the corporator’s move as “entertaining”. “We are too strong in Bhopal Lok as we have worked for its all-round development,” he said. The BJP leader also mocked Yogendra’s pitch saying that “it proves the Congress has no leader to take on the BJP in Bhopal”.

Actor Saif Ali Khan, who is married to Kareena, is the son of former Indian cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. He was the titular nawab of Pataudi, born in Bhopal. The late star had contested in elections from Bhopal back in 1991 on a Congress ticket, but lost to the BJP.

Electoral Fray

Meanwhile, 2019 is set to witness a large, rather unprecedented number of film and sports personalities in the electoral fray. The BJP, under prime minister Narendra Modi and party chief Amit Shah, is said to have lined up a formidable list of candidates, including Madhuri Dixit, Gautam Gambhir, Sunny Deol, Ajay Devgn, Kapil Dev, Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher in addition of its existing line-up of Paresh Rawal, Hema Malini, Manoj Tiwari and Babul Supriyo.
