Expected Finance Minister Asad Umar, the PTI-led government, has veiled at replacing major officials from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). Asad Umar indicated that Asad UmarPakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf will bring more talented people for key positions, including the chairman. The expected candidate for Finance Minister from PTI was speaking to a local news channel. He said that Chairman FBR and SECP are very expected to get changed.
When asked about Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), he said that the chief of central bank and NAB are appointed for a specific tenure, hence Tariq Bajwa or Justice Javed Iqbal won’t be replaced instantly.
Next Prime Minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan, has pointed out the flaws in FBR’s system on multiple incidents. It was just yesterday that he highlighted on increasing the tax-net by not only bringing improvements but also by defensive the tax money through careful spending.
Not to mention, PTI used to severely disparage the tax officials. Seeing the background and public plans from PTI leadership, this statement from Asad Umar isn’t shocking; but, it is yet to be seen how speedily these changes will be applied. Asad Umar didn’t say anything on possible names for the Chairman of FBR and SECP.
